A new home for orphans in Algeria
The tragedy at the Mohammadia orphanage has deeply moved us. Together with BigUp Project, we decided to take action.
What happened
On 16 July 2026, a fire broke out in the middle of the night at the Mohammadia orphanage, east of Algiers. Eleven people lost their lives, including ten children.
They were asleep. That home was all they had.
What we are funding
The renovation of the building is being carried out by the Algerian authorities: the walls, the roof and the electrical system will all be completely refurbished.
What is not being covered is everything that was inside:
➡️ the beds where the children slept
➡️ the wardrobes where they kept their belongings
➡️ the kitchen
➡️ the tables in the study room
➡️ the first-aid kit
➡️ the fire alarms.
This is where we come in, working alongside BigUp Project.
A child who has lost their bed, their clothes and their friends will never get back what they have lost. But they can find a bedroom, somewhere to eat, a room to study in. And an alarm that will sound if it were to happen again.
Budget
The total cost of fitting out the interior of the orphanage is €16,800.
Seed Charity and BigUp Project are sharing the cost equally: €8,400 each.

On the ground
Mehdi Hadj Mebarek (@mehdi_patissier) will oversee operations in Algiers, including procurement, transport, installation and reporting. Every euro raised will be used to purchase equipment that will be delivered and installed at the orphanage.
