Algeria: food support for low-income households

In Algeria, fruit has become unaffordable for low- and middle-income households. These past two years, inflation has been hitting the poorest households hardest, says University Professor Abderrahmane Mebtoul (source). Electricity and gas bills have also more than tripled.

Low-income families and elderly people, orphans and disadvantaged students are those who suffer most. Thanks to its local partner charity, Seed has identified a list of beneficiaries in Wilayas located in the north-west of the country:

– Wilaya of Oran, including an orphanage

– Wilaya of Chlef

– Wilaya of Relizane, midway between Oran and Chlef, where some 50 single-parent families (mothers with their children) have already been identified.

Once the needs have been identified, purchases will be made locally to support the local economy:

– foodstuffs

– hygiene kits

– clothing

– school supplies

– toys for children

Total budget: €3,000
